There’s a proposal to change the terms of the Portuguese Golden Visa program. It has been discussed in sub-committees within parliament. If the proposal passes, it will be sent for publication within this year.
The proposal suggests to stop investment into City Centre’s and Major Towns property investment and only approve applications that are in Low-Density Areas of the country. During the past 5 years, majority of the investment was based in Central Lisbon and Porto. The government is worried that the Portugal property market will only focus on city centre, so measures will be taken to slow down the growth of the market.
